Mental health symptoms are often more complex than they appear. Behind presentations of depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue, or cognitive changes, there may be underlying physical conditions, such as hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies, or inflammatory illnesses, that mimic psychiatric disorders. As dedicated clinicians, we have a professional and ethical responsibility to recognize when a client’s distress may be rooted in physical health concerns. This duty requires us to identify red flags and collaborate appropriately with medical providers, all without diagnosing or treating medical conditions ourselves.
About the Creator
Camille McDaniel, LPC, has been a Licensed Professional Counselor since 2005 and opened her private practice, Healing Psychotherapy Practices of Georgia, in 2010. She is also the founder of Christ in Private Practice, Inc., where she equips Christian mental health professionals through consulting, CE trainings, and as host of the Christ in Private Practice podcast. Camille’s clinical work focuses on individuals navigating anxiety, trauma, mood disorders, chronic illness, anger, and spiritual growth struggles. A former adjunct professor, Camille has over a decade of teaching and training experience and has been a speaker at Richmont University, the Faith, Healing, and Transformation Summit, and on podcasts such as The Holistic Counselor and Selling the Couch. She is passionate about helping both clients and clinicians recognize the medical and spiritual roots of mental health and build practices that reflect both excellence and faith.
